Route density matters more than a perfect-looking map

Reducing drive time between stops creates more available production time without increasing crew hours. Group recurring customers into compact service areas, assign stable service days, and avoid accepting isolated work unless the price covers the travel burden.

Optimization should respect the depot, service windows, estimated job duration, crew capacity, and the need to return. The shortest geographic line is not always the most workable day.

Build recurring schedules that survive real weather

Recurring work needs a defined cadence, preferred service day, duration, assigned crew, and policy for rain delays or holidays. A schedule should make it easy to move a group of stops while preserving the next recurrence.

The office and field need the same source of truth. Notes, access instructions, photos, checklists, changes, and completion status should stay attached to the property and visit instead of disappearing in text messages.

Measure operational improvement

Track drive minutes per stop, planned versus actual service time, completed stops per crew day, callbacks, skipped work, and revenue per route hour. These measures expose routing, estimating, training, and customer-density problems sooner than total weekly revenue alone.

Use the results to change territory, minimum prices, service-day promises, or crew assignments. Routing software is most valuable when it supports those business decisions rather than producing directions only.
